It’s been a month since the last Premier League game and fans are eagerly awaiting its return, whenever that may be. Many leagues around the world and in the UK have already been cancelled until the start of next season, but the Premier League is still adamant that the remaining games will be completed before the start of next season and Premier League winner, Champions League places and relegation spots worked out properly.

Whilst the football may have slowed down, one thing that hasn’t been affected is transfer rumours. With no football to watch fans have been checking to see if any deals are being made behind closed doors.

The transfer rumours start to swell a little later than April, but with the world in lockdown fans are starting to get their bets in early about which players will be moving where.

With coronavirus having unprecedented effects around the world, can we expect the virus to have a detrimental affect on the European football transfer market?

If the Premier League is unable to finish due to the lockdown then clubs may be expected to pay back £960m to broadcasters. And with no money coming in due to the lack of games, the usual clubs who like to spend big my not be able to splash the cash quite as much as they like to.

A study by the CIES Football Observatory expects transfer values could drop by as much as 28% across Europe’s big five leagues.

With the lack of income for a lot of football clubs, we could see a switch of power moving away from the selling club and into the hands of the buying club as desperation to recoup lost earning intensifies.

Even with financial problems arising the rumour mill rumble son and the likes of Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane are still rumoured to be expected to see moves to new clubs with price tags of £100m and £200m, respectively.
