Transfer saga

It appears Manchester United transfer target Jadon Sancho is no closer to making his protracted move to the Premier League side, with Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director claiming the deadline for the switch has now passed.

With Dortmund worried their pre-season preparations would be upset by a potential transfer saga, the German giants gave United until August 10th to get the deal wrapped up. But with that deadline now missed and the two clubs no closer to agreeing a fee, the Bundesliga side’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, says the England international will now remain at the club.

“We plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season. This decision is final, I think that answers all the questions,” Zorc told the German media.

Last summer, we adjusted Jadon’s salary to match the development of his performances. So, in context, we had already extended his contract until 2023 back then,” he added.

Reports suggest the two teams see Sancho’s valuation differently, with United unwilling to fork out in excess of £100m for the 20-year-old. And with Dortmund now ready to begin their summer training camp, the Yellow Submarine are adamant they won’t be letting one of their biggest stars leave.

Pictures of Sancho partying in the UK, which surfaced on social media last week, fuelled rumours that a deal was close. However, Zorc said it’s not unusual for international players to spend time in their home country before pre-season training begins, and he assured the media Sancho wasn’t breaking any club rules.

“It’s common and fine for players to go home before a training camp if they’re not risky. The same goes for Jadon. From our point of view, the pictures that have been shown to us so far do not violate.”

So, with negations at an impasse, unless either side is wiling to budge, it appears this is one transfer saga that’s set to rumble on right through to deadline day in October.
