With the rise of the internet, many predicted that it would be the death of radio and the rise of visual media. Whilst this is in some way true – video media is definitely on the rise being more accessible and available than ever before. But audio is also seeing somewhat of a renaissance in the form of podcasts.

More and more people each year are tuning into their favourite podcasts on a regular basis. In 2020, nearly every major celebrity has appeared on at least one podcast episode with many having their own regular shows.

Podcasts are available on nearly every topic, from educational to entertaining. You can listen to podcasts surrounding nearly every popular hobby. Football in the UK is talked about in pubs and bars more than anything else, so it makes sense that fans are subscribing to football podcasts by the busload.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the best footballing podcasts that cover every side of the game, so everyone can find a podcast that suits them:

UK Fantasy Football Show

If fans aren’t watching, playing or talking about football, you can guarantee that they are planning their next fantasy football move. This podcast is the perfect pod for every type of fantasy player; whether they are the league leading stat men that plan five weeks ahead  or the strong starter that eventually forgets all about their team until they realise they are 178 points adrift of their mates.

They go through everything from top player picks, player rotation techniques and a look at some truly awful management decision that won’t make you feel as bad about your own choices.

That Peter Crouch Podcast

For a peak behind the curtain at the life of a Premier League footballer, then the BBC Radio 5 podcast with Liverpool and Spurs legend Peter Crouch, Sportswriter Tom Fordyce and Radio One personality Chris Stark is the perfect choice.

Peter Crouch is refreshing with his honest account of his time as a professional footballer. You get a real sense of experiencing the real, nitty-gritty world of the Premier League and International football, and whilst the veil of glamour may be lifted, what you’re left with is a hilarious account of what it actually means to be a footballer.

The Gary Neville Podcast

As one of the most popular of the new breed of player-come-pundit, it makes sense that fans want to tune in to the former Manchester United fullback’s podcast. He gives fans a window into his thoughts about modern football, what’s going on at clubs that fans don’t know about and tells us what he really thinks of Jamie Carragher.

The Redmen TV Podcast

Obviously this is aimed at Liverpool fans but plenty of neutrals have been starting to tune in to hear the voices of the fans behind one of Europe’s most dominant teams at the moment as they lay down their Premier League charge to beat their thirty year duct.

It’s great hearing about a club from the fans themselves, it’s just an added bonus this rag tag team have some great presenting, punditry and interviewing skills behind them. Their uncensored match build up, predicted line ups and Final Word shows are beloved by Liverpool fans for their honest accounts and lets face it, this is one hell of a time to be a Liverpool fan so they are always in high spirits.
