As the 40th anniversary of Bruce Kilgore’s iconic silhouette nears, it appears that the sneaker has abandoned all reservations in order to introduce a handful of stunning yet unexpected details. We’re talking heat-reflective panelling and gradient swooshes to say the least! In fact, brand-new imagery of an upcoming Air Force 1 Low has recently been unveiled that initially showcased a desire to stick to the tried-and-tested methods of previous iterations, however a closer look is starting to suggest otherwise. After all, the Air Force 1 should be quite used to experimental designs from Nike by now!
This design chooses to forgo the traditional use of smooth leather uppers and opts for perforated paneling at the mid-foot instead for an interesting twist on what used to be a predictable sneaker. There’s also the implementation of Nike’s signature Swoosh along the profiles which appear to be textured and feature accompanying embroidery on the outline, a daring design choice that sneakerheads are either going to love or hate.
The inside of the Swoosh is where things really get interesting as official imagery showcases a gradient finish merging from yellow to green with enough subtlety that it doesn’t completely dominate the design but still manages to catch our eye. There’s also another side-step away from originality where the tongue branding and upper heel overlays are concerned as this Air Force 1 Low has them abandoning their traditional styles in favour of brand-new alternatives.
So far we’ve only managed to get our hands on the official imagery that offers an in-depth glance at this upcoming and highly anticipated Air Force 1 Low. Whilst expectations are high, sources suggest that Nike will be planning a quiet launch at Nike.com in the very near future. Whether this is a ploy to get sneakerheads to let down their guard remains to be seen, but we’ll be bringing you all the latest updates as and when they become available.
