Jeremy Renner was trying to save his nephew from being run over by a snowplow when the vehicle began to slide and crushed the actor, according to an incident report released by authorities in Nevada. The incident occurred on January 1st.
The Avengers star, 52, suffered “blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries” on top of breaking more than 30 bones.
CNN reported a statement from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office which reads that Renner used the machine to help move his nephew’s truck from the driveway after a significant amount of snowy weather had hit the area.
The report reads: “Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to his nephew, he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over.”
However, the PistenBully snow groomer then started to slide, causing Jeremy to “exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake,” and the machine began moving sideways down the hill, as confirmed via the report.
Renner’s nephew was able to help him until professional help had arrived, the report from CNN states. Renner was then airlifted to the nearest hospital, where he was taken care of for more than two weeks, went under at least two surgeries and being treated in the intensive care unit.
