Conor McGregor has given a chilling prediction ahead of his UFC 257 bout with Dustin Poirier, claiming he’ll KO the American inside a minute.
Over the years, McGregor has been known to get it right with his predictions, earning himself the nickname ‘Mystic Mac’ after successfully calling the outcome of some of his earlier fights.
Incidentally, one of those was against Poirier, who the Irishman despatched via TKO when they first collided back at UFC 178 over 6 years ago. Now, with the two set to square off again later this month, McGregor has channelled his inner psychic once more, and the Dubliner believes another early stoppage is on the cards.
“I like Dustin, I think he’s a good fighter,” McGregor told the UFC’s Countdown to 257 show. “He’s even a great fighter, but great is still levels below me. I’ll knock Dustin out inside 60 seconds.”
Given McGregor’s past accuracy in making fight predictions, the comments should be cause for at least a little alarm for Poirier. Indeed, McGregor first coined the ‘Mystic Mac’ moniker in the post-fight interview following the two’s first contest, after delivering on his promise to finish Poirier in the opening round.
So with the two set to go at it once more, Poirier would be wise to avoid leaving himself open like he did in his last outing against Dan Hooker, as McGregor’s laser-like striking could shut his lights off in the early stages once again.
With COVID restrictions still in place, the media frenzy we usually see with any McGregor fight has been curtailed, although you can expect remote press conferences and the UFC’s in-house build-up in the next week or so.
For now, though, you’ll have to make do with this bold prediction from the former two-division world champion, who is clearly expecting to make light work of Poirier when the two face off on January 23rd.
