It is nothing new that Nike are one of the biggest sneaker brands in the world. Their incredible history and constant eye for the latest trends. Whether you prefer their sneakers or apparel, everyone is familiar with the American-born company.

Since 1964, Nike has dominated the sneaker market from the Air Force 1s to the Cortez, there are thousands of different styles and colourways to choose from. That is what makes them perfect for anyone’s wardrobe. Let’s take a dive into the history of Nike…

The story of Nike began with two men, Bill Bowerman, and Phil Knight. The idea of Nike began with their love for footwear and the idea of maximising the performance potential for users. On the 25th of January 1964, they both founded Blue Ribbon Sports. This new company began their journey distributing sneakers for a variety of imports. These sneakers were mainly the Onitsuka Tiger brand, amazed by the quality, the two decided to follow the footsteps of this revolutionary running trainer and create their very own premium running shoe.

Although Puma and Adidas were close competitors then and still are now, Nike are one of a kind. Continuous performance and style are something that makes this brand timeless.

After hiring their first member of staff, Jess Johnson, some changes were made to the brand, and this included the name. The brand’s iconic Swoosh on the sneakers, apparel, and anything else by Nike was originally designed by Carolyn Davidson. Jess Johnson discovered the name Nike after drawing inspiration from the existing logo and the winged Greek goddess of victory, and that is where Nike was born…

The first Nike sneaker was called the Moon Shoe, this was made in Bowerman’s waffle maker! The iconic waffle sneaker sole design was originally thought of when Bill was eating his breakfast and wondered if waffle-like grooves in the sneaker soles would help performance rate. After a few test runs of the waffle print, they found immediate success, and the rest is history!
