Bruce Wayne’s iconic origin story is as well-known as the likes of Peter Parker and Wolverine, and has been covered and recovered countless times over the various DC storylines, so director Matt Reeves knew better than to try and tell it again in The Batman. Once again, DC’s caped crusader is heading to the big screen, but he’ll look a bit different than past iterations. The Batman has undergone a few creative changes on its way to release, first put into development as a solo vehicle for Ben Affleck. However, when he departed the DCEU, Robert Pattinson was cast as Bruce, and The Batman moved to its own universe. When the film begins, Bruce will be in his second year as Gotham’s famed vigilante, and he’ll be facing his biggest challenge yet.
The Batman is set to face The Riddler, who is a serial killer with a penchant for games. The Riddler is targeting those of Gotham’s Elite. Bruce will be looking into the murders alongside Jim Gordon and Cat woman. This movie also features some familiar faces such as Alfred Pennyworth and The Penguin.
With The Batman less than two months from release, its cast and crew are beginning to start their duties promoting it, hence why Reeves recently shared some exciting details about the film. In addition to discussing things like Pattinson’s daring eyeliner and reflecting on the initial backlash to his star’s casting, Reeves touched upon whether The Batman will tell Bruce’s origin story yet again. As the actors said, “We’ve seen it so many times,” Reeves said. “It’s been done too much. I knew we couldn’t do that.” This could mean that fans don’t have to sit through the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne as they have had to do in the previous films. However, there could be flashbacks to Bruce’s past as they have cast Luke Roberts as Thomas. Even if they decide to show the murders fans will not be sitting through extensive filming of Bruce’s lead up to the character he is now.
