Wearing Sneakers On The Red Carpet?

ByPhil Collins

Sep 22, 2022

Hannah Waddingham surprised viewers as she rocked a pair of sparkly sneakers on the red carpet at the 2022 Emmy Awards and we are so here for it!

Ted Lasso star, Hannah Waddingham wowed the crowd in her beautiful pink tulle gown designed by Dolce and Gabbana. The actress who is best known for portraying Rebecca Welton in the Apple TV series, Ted Lasso, revealed that she was wearing a pair of custom bedazzled converse sneakers underneath her dress instead of heels.

Hannah revealed this to E! red carpet host, Loni Love, who also happened to be wearing a pair of embellished slip-on sneakers. Comfort is key!

In addition to the crystal sneakers, she accessorised with a pair of glamourous earrings and bracelets to tie in nicely with the pink gown. Her hair was styled in a classy ponytail and her makeup glowing with hints of pink shades.

Making the red-carpet glamour comfortable seems to be the motto for this year!

“Nobody knows that I have heels on underneath!” she said during E!’s Live From the Red-Carpet pre-show. The real question is… who needs heels when you can look just as elegant and have non-paining feet at the same time?

After winning an Emmy award last year for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series, Waddingham was nominated for a second year but unfortunately lost it to Sheryl Lee Ralph for her incredible performance in Abbott Elementary.

Let’s take a look back at when other female celebrities chose comfort over stilettos:

Kristen Stewart

Kristen has always been known to have incorporated edgier styles in her red carpet looks. Wearing sneakers is one of the ways that she expresses rebellion against the systems that hold people back from expressing their true style.

Millie Bobby Brown

The rising star has brought her trendy and quirky side to red carpet events. She achieves this perfectly with her colourful outfits that include some of her favourite sneakers. Her choice of shoes has maintained for youth and a playful persona on and off the screen. Recently, she has teamed up with Converse and launched her limited-edition range!

Billie Eilish

The singing sensation has brought her unique fashion sense to the red carpet through unusual colours, baggy clothes, and of course, sneakers. The multi-Grammy winner hasn’t always been the most popular red-carpet outfit, but that’s what makes her original and she isn’t afraid to break those stereotypical barriers with gendered fashion.
