What You Should Not Do After A Workout

For some people going to gym is a part of routine that does not require much effort, however for others it can be the most gruelling task of the entire day. In fact, many people think that attending the gym deserves a reward and whilst it is a great achievement, you may be ruining all of your hard work straight afterwards! To avoid rendering all of your hard work and effort pointless, here is a brief list of what you shouldn’t do after a workout:

Staying in your gym clothes

Working out causes a lot of bacteria to start growing in your clothing, which is why it is vital to take off the clothing to wash it as soon as you possibly can. Even if you know that you won’t shower until later on it is still recommended that you take the clothes off and put something loose on.

Not showering

Speaking of bacteria, sweat clings to your body after a hard workout, which is why it is important to jump in the shower as quick as you can. In fact, this is the reason why many gyms come equipped with a shower in the changing rooms. Washing off this sweat and bacteria helps prevent irritation and spots.

Eating the wrong food

It is important to refuel your body after going to the gym, however you should make sure you’re eating the right foods. It is always best to consume some kind of lean protein source after the gym as this helps your muscles refuel and is the most filling macronutrient. Eating pizza or other foods high in fat and salt content will only undo all your hard work!

Not relaxing correctly

Whilst you shouldn’t become a couch potato after the gym, it is important to make sure that you are getting the correct amount of rest so that your body can recover from the tough exercise you put it through! Always work some rest days into your gym schedule so you know your body is getting time to heal.

Now you know what to avoid once you’ve finished your next big workout! But of course, knowing what to do is just as important as knowing what to avoid.
