Yeezy Rename Controversial 350 v2 Colourway

Now this one might come as quite a shock, but it appears Kanye West has actually backed down for once! Last night, news that will surprise anyone familiar with the star’s often hard-headed approach to life came as it was reported the name of his upcoming Yeezy 350 v2 will be changed after all.

Initially named the “Asriel” after a character in the Bible, the upcoming release caused outrage within the Muslim community as the name is also shared by an archangel in the Quran. After being branded disrespectful by followers of the religion who demanded the shoe was renamed, all eyes were on adidas and West to see whether they were willing to reconsider the name.

Not one to usually backdown, Kanye remained silent on the issue, and it appeared Yeezy may be about to ignore the complaints and push ahead regardless. However, last night it was eventually announced the name of the shoe has been changed to the “Carbon” and one can only imagine how much the climb down must have annoyed the Yeezy designer.

According to unnamed sources, the latest rendition of the silhouette was named after the angel of death due to the black Primeknit upper and light-coloured Boost sole, which represented the wings. However, after causing such controversy, fans of the shoe will now have to make do with the “Carbon” moniker, which doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.

The design was first announced as a duo alongside the “Israfil”, which is the Islamic angel of music and another prominent figure in the religion. But although Yeezy were able to change the name of the unreleased design, the “Israfil” dropped last month making it impossible to rebrand now.

Despite the back-track from adidas and Kayne, with a plethora of spectacular releases of late, this was a small defeat in an otherwise wildly successful year.
