From record-breaking Beyoncé to the controversial Album of the Year Award. At Double Tapped, we are going to give you a brief recap on this year’s 65th Grammy Awards. Hosted by Trevor Noah in sunny Los Angles, this year’s awards show was jam-packed full of live performances and consisted of 91 categories total, the big four being Song Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, And Best New Artist.

Here are some of our highlights below:

Christine McVie’s Tribute

Back in November last year, the Fleetwood Mac member, Christine McVie, sadly passed away from a short illness. At this year’s show, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, and the man himself Mick Fleetwood, honoured McVie with an emotional rendition of her song Songbird.

Beyoncé’s Record-Breaking Award

Queen Bey received the award for Best Dance / Electronic Album for her latest album Renaissance. This was her 32nd award, beating the previous artist, Quincy Jones, who was in the lead with 29 awards. Just incredible!

Kim Petras Becomes The First Trans Woman To Accept An Award

Kim Petras, 30, became the first transgender woman to receive a Grammy award. It was a special moment for her and her bestie, Sam Smith. Petras paid tribute to her late friend and fellow co-worker, Sophie, who was also a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Lizzo winning Record of the Year

The ray of sunshine that she is, Lizzo, won Record of the Year for her joyous song About Damn Time. A catchy tune that deserved to win! Nominated for 4 awards, Lizzo accepted the award, and her acceptance speech was so inspirational to women across the world.

Harry Styles wins Album of the Year

Harry has had a successful few years to say the least, after winning the award for Best Pop Solo Performance for his song Watermelon Sugar back in 2021 and now taking home 2 huge awards in 2023.

He was up against Adele, Beyoncé, Lizzo, Bad Bunny, and many more incredible musicians.

Other honourable mentions are Rosalia winning Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album for her album Motomami and Jack Antonoff winning the Non-Classical Producer award.
